It is a term to describe professional cleaning of your teeth, by using an ultrasonic (a very high speed vibrating instrument), your attending dentist will scale off plaque and calculus which are normally inaccessible areas by normal toothbrushing.
General scaling:
This procedure is the removal of heavy hardened bacteria that has accumulated on the teeth. Heavy bleeding usually occurs once hardened deposits are removed. The gums are allowed to heal before any further cleaning is done. A follow up appointment is done in two weeks. Routine cleaning can be done once gum health is assessed.
